Hotelis is, above all, a place where talented individuals and exceptional establishments come together. In this video, we have chosen to highlight this mission by telling a true story: that of candidate Benjamin Girol, our client Emmanuel Lahille and our advisor Etienne Marchal.
Building his career, step by step
Benjamin, 35, originally from Évian-les-Bains, moved to the Lake Geneva region two years ago, keen to embark upon a new chapter in his career. With eight years’ experience as a sous-chef, Benjamin arrived in Switzerland eager to take on a new challenge. He was aiming to develop his career and explore new horizons, though hadn’t yet considered working in a luxury hotel.
He discovered Hotelis after responding to an advert posted on Indeed. He soon heard back from Etienne, a Hotelis advisor. Their dialogue was relaxed yet practical. Benjamin turned up for his interview well-prepared, on time and with all the necessary documents. These little details made all the difference, reinforcing a very positive first impression.
Personalised support to help unlock potential
Benjamin’s potential was apparent from his very first interviews. His prior experience demonstrated a proven track record in challenging environments and acceptance of responsibility, as well as an ability to handle high-pressure situations. Together, Benjamin and Etienne took the time to discuss and map out a career path that was best suited to his skills. This involved a move from the kitchen to front-of‑house, where his organisational skills and expertise could be fully utilised.
Thanks to his network and local knowledge, Etienne identified an opportunity at the Lausanne Palace. Benjamin received tailored support even before he started the job: an understanding of the client’s expectations, preparation for the standards and requirements of a five-star hotel and personalised advice to help him begin this new chapter with confidence.
Potential identified and harnessed
Benjamin’s potential was apparent from his very first interviews. His prior experience showed a track record in challenging environments and acceptance of responsibility, as well as an ability to handle high-pressure situations. Together, Benjamin and Etienne mapped out a career path that was best suited to his skills. This involved a move from the kitchen to front-of-house, where his organisational skills and expertise could truly shine.
When an opportunity arose at the Lausanne Palace within Emmanuel’s team, Etienne took the time to prepare Benjamin for the specific expectations of a five-star hotel. This involved not only technical skills but also focussed on interpersonal skills and attention to detail, as well as the behaviour expected in such an environment.
Proving himself on the job
Benjamin settled in quickly during his initial assignments. On the job, he demonstrated his diligence, reliability and genuine professionalism. At large-scale events, sometimes with up to 350 guests, he handled the pressure and coordinated teams, gradually earning everyone’s trust.
As far as the Lausanne Palace is concerned, Emmanuel’s assessment was sound: Benjamin is one of a kind. His work brought real stability to the teams and fully met the organisation’s expectations. Assignments started to arrive thick and fast, highlighting one of the key benefits of collaborating with Hotelis: enabling candidates to gain access to renowned establishments while offering clients the opportunity to retain the staff who best suit their needs.
From temporary work to permanent employment
After more than a year and a half as a temporary employee, a permanent position became available. For Benjamin, the choice was clear. At a time in his life when balance and stability were becoming more important, this career move marked a key milestone.
Benjamin now has a permanent position at the Lausanne Palace. This progression was made possible thanks to tailored support, careful listening and a relationship of trust among the three people involved in this story.
Take risks, seek support, grow
Benjamin’s success story drives home a key message: don’t be afraid to take risks. Even when faced with daunting or highly demanding situations, having the right support makes all the difference. Hotelis is here to guide, advise and open doors for both talented individuals as well as hospitality businesses.
This video illustrates what lies at the heart of Hotelis: unearthing talent, fostering lasting connections and building strong, fulfilling career paths together.
